Signature Projects
Students grow into confident, imaginative leaders in Upper School
Grade 4 researches everything
Students in the fourth grade put their agency to the forefront as they select topics for a long-term inquiry project. Research topics range from the history of theater, to glass-blowing, to endangered animals and extinction. Vetting sources, gleaning salient information, and presenting their research in an organized manner are critical skills that will serve fourth graders for years to come.
Grade 5 delves into mysteries
Fifth grade students put their problem-solving skills to the test as they investigate mystery writing as a genre. Students analyze mysteries in reading groups, craft their own mystery, and combine this unit with a field trip to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum to sleuth some more as they learn about the most notorious art heist in the museum's history.
Grade 6 embodies their research
Sixth graders take on a thorough study of the U.S. Civil War and Reconstruction. Through thematic reading selections, reading groups, research and writing, students gain an understanding of the United States and the social and political impacts of this rich era of history. Sixth graders lean into their leadership skills as they present their complex and powerful research projects for families and students in a Civil War Museum format.
The CHS program helps students make cross-curricular connections and become intellectually skilled and self-empowered learners.
