How to Apply
The Chestnut Hill School enrolls over 270 students in our Beginners Program (Age 3) through Grade 6. We draw from over 30 communities in the Boston area, and our students, families, and faculty represent many backgrounds and cultures. The CHS experience provides academic rigor, social growth, ongoing leadership opportunities, and extracurricular programs.
Each step in our admission process is designed to help us learn more about each other as we build our welcoming, vibrant community and you choose the perfect school for your family. Our goal in the Admission Office is to provide a personalized introduction to The Chestnut Hill School and to demystify the admission process. Below are the steps to apply. Parent/Guardian Interview & Tour
Interviews and tours are scheduled from September to February in the mornings on Mondays through Thursdays. This is a required part of the admission process. Our admission team conducts all interviews and tours. We encourage you to schedule your visit early and for both parents/guardians to come at the same time (if applicable). While parents often choose to come alone for this first visit, children are certainly welcome. Please contact the Admission Office to schedule your interview and tour at 617-264-1342.
As part of the admission process, we evaluate the information gathered from the parent/guardian meeting and student playgroup, as well as prior school records (if applicable), the AISNE evaluation form, and the family history form. We do not require recommendations but will place them in the applicant’s file if received. Our Admission Committee seeks to identify applicants for whom The Chestnut Hill School is the right fit both socially and academically. We are a school that lives its mission on a daily basis and look for families that will embrace our mission.
This is also a required part of the application process. Children applying for Beginners, Pre-K, Kindergarten and Grade 1 will join a playgroup session with other children applying for the same grade. During the playgroups, parents have the opportunity to visit with current parent(s) and the Head of School. Children applying for Grades 2 - 6 visit in their current grade level for a full day during which they participate in classroom activities and a one-on-one meeting with a member of our Support Team go through the admission testing material. We will schedule these visits once we receive an application and we will notify you of the date(s).
All decisions are sent out on March 8, 2019 in accordance with AISNE guidelines.
If your child is placed on the waitlist, this is considered an acceptance to the school, pending space. We require that Families return the reply card letting us know if they would like to remain on our waitlist. We have no way of knowing what movement (if any) there may be on the waitlist. Adjustments can be made as late as August if a space becomes available. Candidates on the waitlist are not in any specific order but rather make up a pool of qualified students. If your child is placed on the waitlist and you choose to apply again the following year, you must complete the entire admission process again. All applicants must complete the entire process each year they apply.
Application for Admission and Family and Guardian History Form: The Application for Admission and Family & Guardian History Forms is due as soon as possible, but no later than January 16. It may be submitted before or after you visit the school. The non-refundable application fee is $55. A family photo should be included with all applications. After January 16, applications will be considered based on space availability. Please contact us with any questions.
AISNE Evaluation Form (PK-1 / 2-5): Please give your child’s teacher this form to be completed and returned directly to Chestnut Hill. Please follow up to be sure that it is returned to the Admission Office by January 31. For Beginners applicants please use the PK-1 form if your child is in a school or daycare. For Grade 6 applicants please use the 2-5 form. REQUIRED FOR ALL APPLICANTS.
Release Form: Please complete this form and give it to your current school so that your child's school records may be sent to us. Please follow up with them to confirm they have sent the records to the CHS Admission Office by January 31.
