Lower Camp (Age 4 or 5)
“Another amazing summer! We couldn't be happier. Our youngest had the best time. It was her first camp experience and the counselors were fantastic at making her feel comfortable. I can't say enough about the lifeguards too; she would barely put her face in the water at the beginning of the summer and now is jumping in and swimming underwater. Our older daughter connected with the counselors and loved the performances and all of the art projects.”
2022 Lower Camp Groups:
Our lower camp groups (Butterflies, Bumblebees, Crickets and Dragonflies) boast a 4-to-1 camper to staff ratio. Each group has a staffing team of one lead teacher, three assistant counselors, and one counselor-in-training. Staff members are hired based on their experience, passion for working with children and favorable references/background checks. Lead teachers must hold a college degree. Each day, staff provide a nurturing and supportive environment where campers can flourish by building new skills, confidence, and friendships.
Sample 2022 Lower Camp Schedule - Swim and playground times will vary for each group.
Sample Newsletter - Newsletters, photos, and swim reports are sent home each session.
2022 Lower Camp Themes: Outer Space, Winter in July, Fun at The Circus, Under The Sea
Lower campers may choose the half-day, or full-day option. All campers will have lunch in their respective homerooms at noon.
Half-Day (9:00am-1:00pm) - includes a rotating schedule of art, instructional swim, playground time, story time, music, STEM, and sports (gross motor play). Instructional swim is taught daily for a 30-minute period by our American Red Cross certified staff; see below. Campers can expect a balance of outdoor and indoor activities.
Full-Day (9:00am-3:45pm) - is comprised of additional periods of swimming (free swim with staff), playground, art and/or music. Campers will also have a quiet or resting period from 1:00-1:30pm. During this time, campers (based on developmental needs) will have the opportunity to play quietly with assorted toys or nap/rest in an adjoining classroom.
Directors and group counselors are available during arrival and dismissal to answer any questions, and to share stories about your camper's day. Our weekly newsletters also capture lesson highlights. Newsletters from each group along with swim reports will be sent at the end of each session.
Each session, our lower campers will practice and prepare a fun whole group performance for families to either attend in person and/or the performance will be videotaped with a link sent to families. As we continue to learn more regarding COVID-19 restrictions we will communicate the dates and logistics of these performances. Group performances creatively combine the session theme with an art and/or music lesson.
Groups have a 30 minute daily instructional swim class each day. Our certified swim staff will evaluate each swimmer before placing them in an appropriate swim level group. Lower Camp groups consist of 4-5 campers with two staff (one swim instructor in the water and one on deck counselor). Swim staff will provide instruction (based on The American Red Cross Swim Program) and feedback while in the water with their group. Swim assessments are sent home with the campers at the end of each session.
