CHS Faculty and Staff Community Service

Posted by Kelly Conn on 09 May 2011

Each year, CHS Faculty and Staff spend an afternoon volunteering for one of two local community service agencies. On April 29th the Chestnut Hill School volunteered in the Cradles to Crayons Giving Factory (http://cradlestocrayons.org/) and Community Servings (http://www.servings.org/index.cfm).

Founded in 2002, Cradles to Crayons (C2C) strives to provide children up to age 12 living in homeless and low-income situations with the essentials they need to feel safe, warm, ready to learn, and valued. New and gently-used children’s goods come to the “Giving Factory” warehouse by way of donations from families and individuals, corporations, and product drives held by community groups. CHS Volunteers came to the warehouse to inspect, sort, and package all donations into “C2C KidPacks,” individualized packages of essential children’s items ordered for specific in-need kids.

Community Servings is a not-for-profit food and nutrition program providing services throughout Massachusetts to individuals and families living with critical and chronic illnesses. Community Servings gives their clients, their dependent families, and caregivers appealing, nutritious meals, and sends the message to those in greatest need that someone cares. The goals of Community Servings are to help our clients maintain their health and dignity and to preserve the integrity of their families through free, culturally-appropriate, home-delivered meals, nutrition education, and other community programs.
