The purpose of the Chestnut Hill School Intern Program is to prepare, through training and experience, those who desire careers in teaching. Participants will be exposed to all facets of an elementary school that, since its founding in 1860, has gained a national reputation as a progressive school. The school is a short walk from Boston College and the Chestnut Hill MBTA stop. The Chestnut Hill School is an Equal Opportunity Employer and seeks to promote diversity through its program and hiring.
This program is designed to provide beginning teachers who are pursuing masters degrees and/or wish to enter the field of education an opportunity to gain additional experience from classroom and specialist teachers. Interns will work with an experienced teacher, observe classes and assist with individual and group projects. As the year progresses, interns will take on more responsibility, typically culminating in leading lessons. Interns visit classes in other departments of the school on a regular basis. Interns will have both regular and informal meetings/conversations concerning educational issues, curricula and topics relevant to teaching at the preschool and elementary levels in independent schools. Other responsibilities may include participating in family/teacher conferences, attending faculty meetings and fulfilling lunch, recess and carpool duties.
To be eligible, candidates must have completed an undergraduate degree and have a strong desire to enter the teaching profession.
Salary and Benefits
Interns will receive a stipend of $12,000, as well as medical/dental insurance and $500 towards professional development.
The deadline for receipt of a cover letter, resume and personal statement for this competitive program is April 1.
