OPENINGS:

Learning Specialist
The Learning Specialist reports directly to the Director of Educational Support. The days of the week and hours will be determined between the Learning Specialist and the Director of Educational Support based upon the needs of the student population. In general, it is expected that the Learning Specialist work three three-hour shifts per week. The responsibilities are outlined below; the list is meant to highlight the important responsibilities inherent in being a Learning Specialist at The Chestnut Hill School. It does not, however, represent 100% of what may be needed do on a day-to-day basis. Other tasks arise and employees are expected to fulfill all duties to the highest standards of competence, skill and efficiency.

Teaching Responsibilities

  • Teach and manage individual or small groups in reading, math or writing using specialized instruction to support students with learning differences
  • Assess student progress and maintain records
  • Provide input into students’ learning plans
  • Write progress reports; provide input for and/or attend parent/teacher conferences
  • Communicate additionally with families about student performance as warranted
  • Communicate and collaborate with homeroom teachers; attend team meetings when available
  • Communicate and collaborate with learning support department personnel
  • Meet periodically with the Director of Educational Support
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Educational Support

Professional Development Responsibilities
Mandatory – First and Second Years

  • Attend Faculty Orientation (week prior to Labor Day)
  • Read one of the CHS summer books based on the school’s mission
  • Attend additional training opportunities based on the needs of the student population and professional background; opportunities to be determined by the Learning Specialist and the Director of Educational Support

Mandatory – From Third Year Going Forward

  • Attend Faculty Orientation (week prior to Labor Day)
  • Read one of the CHS summer books based on the school’s mission
