Community
Connections nurture trust, and trust is the foundation of effective teaching—one that enables us to challenge students with a rigorous academic program within the context of a warm and supportive environment. Positive and affirming relationships create deep connections and build self-confidence, empowering our students to eagerly “take the helm” in classrooms, community meetings, concerts, class performances, and on the athletic field.
Friends In Our Community (FIOC)
In order to reinforce and teach children the value of supporting others, The Chestnut Hill School is committed to a school-wide community service program. Through numerous community service projects, our children, staff and families participate in activities within our community and those communities well beyond the immediate school boundaries. It is our goal that children will be actively involved in the planning and execution of these projects, and that the projects will support the mission of the school.
Role Models, Responsibility, & Leadership Activities
In the upper grades, we nurture the skills and confidence needed to assume leadership roles at CHS and beyond. Fourth graders serve as Reading Partners to students in Beginners. Fifth graders participate in a Leadership Class taught by the Head of School, helping students to recognize a range of leadership traits and to identify those they see in themselves. Serving as admirable leaders and role-models for younger students, sixth graders also enjoy the benefits of an Advisor Program that offers them one-on-one mentoring and support.
