About Our Board


The Chestnut Hill School’s Board of Trustees helps ensure that the school is healthy, vibrant, and well-positioned to serve future generations by providing oversight of its financial, physical, and human resources. The Board also plays a key role in establishing the school’s mission, vision, strategic goals, and policies.  Our board is composed primarily of current and past parents with expertise in finance, business, development, education, real estate, medicine, law and many other fields.

Carrie Burr


Carrie Burr is a past CHS parent. Carrie began her career at CHS in 2009 volunteering at the annual Spring Fling. In the years since, Carrie has acted as co-chair of the Spring Fling and Carnival as well as assisted as a volunteer in support of other CHS events. She is also a former member of the CHS Family Association Executive Board. Beyond the CHS community Carrie is a board member of her alma mater, Bay Path University, Longmeadow, MA. Extending beyond the education field, Carrie is an active member of her church, Trinity Episcopal Church, Newton Centre. There she has acted a warden, vestry secretary, and co-chair of the annual stewardship drive. She also established a new Sunday school curriculum and continues to co-chair the program. Carrie’s success as a community service leader is founded on 16 years of domestic and international marketing and sales experience in the industries of technology, consumer research, and non-profit associations.

Catherine Cappelli


Catherine Cappelli is a current CHS parent. Catherine has a family law and mediation practice in Cambridge with a special emphasis on GLBTQ law. She has dedicated her career to the safety and well-being of children and their families. As a former assistant district attorney, she prosecuted crimes involving child abuse, sexual assault and domestic violence. She has a history of working with diverse, multidisciplinary teams to build coalitions, identify gaps in services and change policy. Catherine is a frequent guest speaker and trainer for law enforcement, business leaders, health care professionals, and pre-teen students to post-graduates. She is also an active member in several nonprofit organizations that provide pro bono legal services including the Women's Bar Foundation, Victim Rights Law Center, Volunteer Lawyers Project and Senior Partners for Justice. She received her BA in international politics and Spanish from New York University and her JD from Suffolk University Law School.

Jeannie Chung


Jeannie Chung is a past CHS parent. Jeannie is a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon, having received her BS in Biological Sciences from Stanford University and her MD from the University of California, San Francisco. She trained in general surgery at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and in head and neck surgery at the Harvard Combined Residency Program. She completed her fellowship training through The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in New York. She remains active in recruitment for her alma mater, Stanford, and as a Clinical Instructor at Harvard Medical School, she teaches medical students and surgical residents. In addition to her commitment to education, Jeannie has traveled with volunteer organizations to Ecuador and Thailand, providing philanthropic surgical care to those with limited access. Jeannie is the founder and Chief Executive Office of Jeannie Chung, MD, PC, a successful plastic surgery practice. Besides providing patient care, Jeannie also manages the development and implementation of growth strategies, human resources, capital spending, and marketing. At CHS, Jeannie has co-chaired the Annual Fund and has volunteered at many annual events, including Carnival, Spring Fling, and the Open House.

Emil Dabora


Emil is a current CHS parent. He has worked at Morgan Stanley, Caxton Associates, The Harvard Endowment, and is currently at Tudor Investment Corp where he manages assets with a focus on Event Driven Investing.  Emil and his wife Emilie have been a part of the CHS community since 2011.  He has previously served on the Beacon Hill Nursery School board as well as on the board of the 77 Park Avenue Condominium.  Emil received his BS degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1991 and then went to Harvard where he received his MA in 1994 and PhD in 1996 in Economics.

Michael Douvadjian is a CHS grandparent.  He is a Senior Vice President at UBS Financial Services. He has worked in finance for 30 years and has a CFP. He also has professional experience as a US Air Force Captain. He is the Co-Founder of Edvestors, Chair the Investment Committee of the Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund, and serves on the Investment Committees of Squashbusters and Boston Arts Academy. He currently serves on the Board of UMass Amherst Foundation, Inversant (formerly FUEL Education), Homebase, and the Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund. Michael received a BS from the University of Massachusetts and an MBA from the University of Maine.

Melanie Hoffmeister (Secretary) is a current CHS parent. Melanie has most recently worked at CVS, Staples and Bain & Company in a variety of roles focused on strategy, business development, marketing and e-commerce. Melanie received a bachelor’s degree in finance from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales (HEC) at the Université de Montreal and also earned her MBA from Harvard Business School. As a CHS parent, she has been a volunteer within a variety of CHS programs, including the Carnival, the Book Fair and the Friends of the Library, as well as various roles within the Family Association. Melanie serves on a number of philanthropic boards and committees in Boston and support several charitable organizations, including City Year.

Charlie Jobson (Treasurer) is a current CHS parent. In 1999, Charlie co-founded Delta Partners, LLC, where he is Managing Member and Portfolio Manager. Prior to launching Delta Partners, LLC, Charlie was a Vice President and a member of an eight-person investment committee managing a $3.5 billion U.S. equity portfolio at Baring Asset Management (Barings), an international investment firm, from 1994 to 1998. From 1990-1994, Charlie was an equity analyst with State Street Research & Management, Inc. (SSRM) where his responsibilities included analysis of commodity and specialty chemicals, homebuilding, supermarkets/drug stores, and real estate investment trusts (REITS). Charlie received an undergraduate degree from Northwestern University in 1982 and an MBA with a concentration in finance from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University in 1989. Charlie is a member of the CFA Institute and the Boston Securities Analysis Society and serves on the Board of Directors of The Massachusetts College of Art and Design.

Christopher Johnson is a current CHS parent. Chris is a Managing Director and Head of Wealth Advisory at Stifel Wealth Management and Investment Banking. Chris began his career as an attorney and then joined Lehman Brothers Investment Bank in New York City. Following the acquisition of Lehman Brothers by Barclays Bank, Chris stayed on to lead its Wealth Advisory and Strategic Solutions divisions. Chris was born in Trinidad and raised in Canada. He received an LLB from York University in Toronto, a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Oxford University in England and a Master of Laws (LLM) from Harvard Law School.

Samia Kirmani is a current CHS parent. Samia grew up in the Boston area and joined the TCHS community when (not too long ago) she attended the school as a Kindergartener and first grader. Samia practices employment law as a Principal in the Boston office of Jackson Lewis PC, a national workplace law firm. She is Co-Chair of the firm’s Management Training Practice Group and concentrates her practice in training, advice and counseling, policy development, and litigation relating to various issues that arise in the workplace, such as disability management; discrimination and harassment; whistleblower claims; and other employee relations matters. Prior to joining the TCHS Board, Samia served on the Board of Directors for the Beacon Hill Nursery School. Samia is a member of the Boston Bar Association, South Asian Bar Association of Greater Boston, and various South Asian and other family, community, charitable, and business organizations.

Dean Kolbas (Vice President) is a past CHS parent. Dean is currently Visiting Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Emmanuel College in Boston, where he teaches courses in Ethics, Aesthetics, Political Philosophy, and Literature & Philosophy. He grew up in Los Angeles, where he earned his BA cum laude at the University of Southern California. In 1998, he received his PhD from Cambridge University in England. He is the author of the book, Critical Theory and the Literary Canon (Westview Press, 2001). He has served on the Board of Trustees at CHS since 2013.

Dan Kostyk is a past CHS parent. Dan’s love of learning and teaching goes back to his exciting, innovative high school experience at the University of Chicago Laboratory High School. He graduated from Northwestern University with a mechanical engineering degree and worked for 12 years as a power engineer in the nuclear, coal and cogeneration areas with Fluor Daniel. After an MBA from the University of Chicago, he spent 15 years in quantitative money management with Invesco’s Boston Office. Dan is a CFA chartholder and a member of the Boston Securities Analyst Society. He is a very hands-on father, is always involved with home improvement projects, and is often found tinkering in his basement “lab/workshop.” He enjoys time in the woods and on lakes, particularly when it involves fishing. Dan volunteers in his neighborhood community and is currently a CHS Parent Volunteer working in the Building and Engineering classes and clubs. He loves having just as much fun as the students!

Susan McSwain


Susan McSwain is a current CHS parent. Susan is an executive at Ab Initio Software in Lexington. Prior to joining Ab Initio in 2015, Susan was Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at Fidelity Investments, with responsibility for all employment law matters across Fidelity’s financial services and venture businesses. Before joining Fidelity, she practiced law at Goodwin Procter LLP. Susan is a graduate of Yale University and the University of Chicago Law School. Susan joined the CHS Board in 2012 and has served as Board President since 2014. She has also served for the past four years on the Boston Advisory Council of the Posse Foundation.

Russell Pyle (Chair Emeritus) is a current CHS parent. He has been an active member of The Chestnut Hill School community since 2004, working on the Annual Fund and hosting admissions receptions. Russ is a Partner at North Bridge Growth Equity, a private equity firm, where he focuses on technology investments. Russ has an AB in History from Princeton University and an MBA from the Harvard Business School. He serves on the Board of Governors at the Boston Madison Square Garden Club, is a class chair for Brooks School, and is actively involved at the Church of the Redeemer in Chestnut Hill.

Faiza Riaz is a current CHS parent. Faiza is honored to be serving her second year as President of the CHS Family Association.  Prior to assuming the role of President, Faiza held leadership roles within the Family Association including a Vice President of the Family Association Executive Committee, a Spring Fling co-chair, a co-chair of Friends of the Library, and the Carnival raffle chair. Faiza has also volunteered for numerous CHS activities including Admissions events, Grandparents and Special Friends Day, the Book Fair, and the Host Family Program. Faiza is involved as an alumna of The Hopkins School. She earned a BA from Bowdoin College, double majoring in Economics and Sociology, and received her Master’s in Public Health from the Tufts University School of Medicine. Prior to dedicating her time to volunteer efforts, Faiza was a Consultant with Towers Watson (formerly Towers Perrin).

Mark Russell


Mark Russell is a current CHS parent. They have been part of the CHS community since 2011. Mark has spent his career in real estate and construction and finance. He started his career at a family run construction/real estate business in Vermont and spent 13 years at Cumberland Gulf Group. He received a bachelor degree in economic and political science from the University of Vermont and a masters degree in business administration from Boston University.

Sanjay K. Shetty (Vice President) is a current CHS parent.  Sanjay is the president of Steward Medical Group, a multispecialty group of over 1100 physicians, and Executive Vice President at Steward Health Care System, an integrated healthcare system with a presence in New England, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Florida. He is Past President of the Massachusetts Radiological Society and an Associate Clinical Professor of Radiology at Tufts University School of Medicine. Prior to joining Steward, he was a consultant at Bain & Company in Boston, focused on healthcare strategy and private equity consulting. He is a graduate of Harvard College (AB summa cum laude), Harvard Medical School (MD), and the Wharton School (MBA), and he trained in Radiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He was named one of "Boston's 40 Under 40" by the Boston Business Journal in 2012 and a “Rising Star” by Becker’s Hospital Review in 2013. Outside of work, he serves on the Board of Directors of BANA, a non-profit Indian cultural and charitable organization, and as a class officer at Phillips Exeter Academy. His family lives in Needham.

Julie Swartz is a current CHS parent. Julie is a graduate of George Washington University and received her MBA from Boston University. She has worked in marketing in both the private and non-profit sectors. She followed a dream and, briefly, was the proud owner of a gourmet food shop. She has been the Executive Director of The Heartstone Foundation since 2005, and is an active Board member of Facing History and Ourselves, co-chair of their Raising Ethical Children initiative.

Jen Williams


Jen Williams is a past CHS parent. She works as an independent tutor with elementary aged students, mostly focusing on extra reinforcement of language arts skills taught in the classroom. She taught Fourth Grade at CHS from 2001-2008. Prior to that, she taught Kindergarten at Southfield School following a teaching internship program at the Park School. Jen has a BA from Kenyon College and received a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Wheelock College. She is a class agent for Noble and Greenough School and a member of Dedham Country Day’s Alumni Association. She has volunteered at CHS on the Family Association Executive Committee as Director of Class Representatives for the past three years. Her other volunteering positions at CHS include co-chairing the Rummage Sale from 2009-2013 and volunteering at other CHS events, such as the Carnival and Grandparents and Special Friends Day.

Jason Wise is a current CHS parent. Jason teaches Theater Arts at the Haley Pilot School in Roslindale, and is part of a team of visual artists, musicians and actors committed to providing quality arts education within a full-inclusion setting. His professional experience as an actor and performer includes work in television, film, and on stage. Before joining the Haley, he taught for nine years at the Higginson/Lewis K-8 School and the Lewis Middle School in Roxbury, teaching several subjects across multiple grade levels. He has spent the last ten summers facilitating an intensive workshop on civil rights with the Judge David S. Nelson Fellowship, a program for high school students in Boston, Springfield and Worcester who have shown leadership potential and academic ability. Jason earned his master's degree from Endicott College and his bachelor's degree from Cambridge College. As a CHS parent, he has been an active "affinity group" member of Families of Color United for Success (FOCUS), and has been a volunteer at the Fall Carnival & Alumni Gatherings. Originally from Montclair, New Jersey, Jason has been in Boston since 1997.
